Deadline for Application for the EU Settlement Scheme
IMPORTANT: deadline for application for the EU Settlement Scheme 30th June 2021 – support for vulnerable children and families.
You may be aware that the deadline for application to the EUSS is 30th June.
EU citizens currently living in the UK who arrived before 31st December 2020, must apply for settled or pre-settled status before the deadline. If they do not do so, they risk not being lawfully resident in the UK, with implications for access to work, housing, healthcare etc.
There is currently a focus on ensuring that vulnerable people, in particular Looked After Children, care leavers, Roma, victims of trafficking, homeless people have applied. Vulnerable children, young people and families may be less likely to know that they need to apply, or may need support with their application. Looked After Children and care leavers will be supported by Social Work.
Further support and support for vulnerable / complex cases requiring specialist immigration advice is available from IOM (International Organisation for Migration), working in partnership with Local Authorities.
General support
It has become apparent that, in many cases, parents who have applied did not realise that separate, individual applications must be made for children. In other words, every member of a family must apply in their own right.

EUSS Children’s Leaflet
With the application deadline of 30 June 2021 now less than 50 days away, it is crucial that eligible parents apply to the EUSS themselves and check whether they need to do so on behalf of their children. No child of any age is covered by a parent’s application to the EUSS.
The Home Office has produced an EUSS children’s leaflet, in partnership with the University of Liverpool. It has been designed with children in mind and is intended to support children and parents with information to help them apply to the EUSS.
